FLOATING ON A NATURAL VIBE
When a group of partners get together with an ambition to promote health as a core focus in all aspects of life whether it’s a spiritual awakening or a balanced diet, positive change is bound to sprout and its roots are steadily growing right in the Oak Park neighborhood.
Two adjacent businesses, Capitol Floats and Vibe Health Bar, will each celebrate its one-year anniversary in the bourgeoning Triangle District on Friday, May 5 with live painting exhibitions from artists like BAMR, music provided by DJ Ron Florente samples of açaí bowls, sandwich wraps, and cold-pressed juices courtesy of Vibe Health Bar, and door prizes like free memberships or float sessions from Capitol Floats.
Both companies not only opened two weeks a part from each other last year, but they also worked together on the construction portions of their respective projects.
“There’s so much synergy between the two businesses because everything is connected,” co-owner of Vibe Health Bar, Jeff Greco, says. “Your diet is certainly important, but also the spiritual and relaxation side in centering yourself from floating.”
The first business of its kind in the Sacramento region, Capitol Floats specializes in turning off the everyday distractions and stresses of life by inviting its guests to float in one of four tanks filled with water and Epsom salt, which allows the body to float with ease. Guests control the volume levels of tranquil music and also the functions of playful and serene light patterns.
With more than 5,000 floats logged in its first year, Capitol Floats owner Ryan Duey says he enjoys seeing the positive changes in his customers’ moods or improvements in their physical health each time they visit.
“It’s really cool to see their life expand in so many different ways as happier people who are more present with their family or their job. It’s really fun to hear what floating does for each individual person,” Duey says.
As a new outlet of peace and meditation or a means to ease aches and pains, Duey aims to make Capitol Floats accessible for everyone and even reached out to Sacramento High School in order to encourage its seniors to float. Vibe Health Bar also recently participated in a health fair at the high school and gained an intern for the cafe.
“This is an actual outlet for everyone. It’s not just for a certain type of person. Floating has benefits for every demographic,” Duey says. “It’s more of settling the mind and just kind of quieting the chatter and becoming more aware of aspects of your life.”
Celebrate with Capitol Floats and Vibe Health Bar on Friday, May 5 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Vibe will provide organic, cold-pressed juice samples and bites while Capitol Floats gives away a few free floats to lucky attendees.
