SURPRISING WAYS TO USE AVOCADO
It is probably an understatement to say that we LOVE avocados. Our co-founder actually jokes with us and says she would marry an avocado if she could… (Sorry Roshaun) So, when we finally got the final word that Williamson Farm & Shoup Farms would be making it’s debut at the Midtown Farmers Market last Saturday, we literally jumped for joy! Not only do we publicize our love for the high-protein fruit, but it has be the single most requested item at the market.
On market day we bought as many avocados as our arms could carry. With the excess amount we tested recipes, and the outcome surprised us. We realized these recipes should be enjoyed by more people. We gathered three of our favorite recipes for you to try this summer.
1. Farmers Market Avocado Toast
Okay, okay. Avocado toast isn’t the newest thing in the world. However, you can put a unique twist on this classic dish using some additional products from our market.
Step 1: Drizzle olive oil on bread and toast to desire
Step 2: Top with thinly sliced cheese and tomato
Step 3: Peel avocado and fan across bread
Step 4: Top with finely chopped basil and enjoy
2. Avocado Fries
Prepare to lose the guilt of snacking on real fries. This super easy recipe turns the high-protein fruit into a crunchy snack. If paired with your favorite dipping sauce, trust us, you won’t know the difference between these tasty treats and real French fries.
1-2 Firm Avocados
1/2 Cup Bread Crumbs
Season To Taste
Step 1: Cut avocados into slices of desired size (we did about 4 per half)
Step 2: Dip in whipped egg them immediately dip into bread crumbs
Step 3: Place onto lined pan
Step 4: Bake in oven at 350 for 15 minutes
Step 5: Serve with your favorite dipping sauce
3. Chocolate Avocado Pudding
Just in case you were wondering, you can very well eat avocados for every meal. It’s a well kept secret that chocolate and avocado are the perfect pair, making this 10 minute desert a delectable treat. And with the added benefits of avocados, a second helping of this pudding won’t be frowned upon. Bonus: if you sub out the honey, this recipe is vegan friendly!
1 Ripe Avocado
2 Tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
2 Tbsp Honey for Paleo Diet OR 2 Tbsp Agave Nectar for Vegans
6 Tbsp Almond Milk (we used our favorite Beber Almond Milk)
Step 1: Cut open the avocado and scoop out the pit. Cut it into large chunks and put in the blender
Step 2: Add the cocoa, honey or agave, and almond milk. Blend, starting on low and then moving to high speed until it is smooth
Step 3: Add more cocoa, honey, or agave to taste
Step 4: Refrigerate the pudding and serve cold
Remember, if you try these recipes, please let us know how the final dish comes out!
