WTF IS A SILENT DISCO??
Do you enjoy attending social events, but despise socializing?
Do you love going out and listening to music, but loathe the music you’re forced to listen to?
Do you just wanna dance without actually having to go to the club, buy new clothes, wait in line, pay cover and overdraft your bank account to buy drinks?
If this sounds like you, then the Silent Disco is calling your name— Well, not really, because it’s silent; more of a whisper or a text message.
But WTF is a Silent Disco, anyway?
It’s remarkable, really. A wondrous remix on the traditional dance party where speakers and subs are traded in for a set of wireless headphones.
Sound snobs may snicker at the very idea, but for what the Silent Disco lacks in eardrum-piercing volume and heart attack-inducing bass, it makes up for in magic.
At the Silent Disco, attendees are able to personalize their party experience like never before. At any given moment, multiple channels of music are transmitted directly to your headset. Simply choose a channel and find your groove.
While you whip and nae nae your way into someone’s Snapchat story, your best friend can shuffle right along side without missing a beat. Two different types of music, two different styles of dance; both equally embarrassing, both extremely fun— United through the power of the Silent Disco.
Perhaps the best part about it is all the places you can party. With no hunky speakers to carry around or obnoxiously loud sound to get the cops called on you, the possibilities are endless: the library, jury duty, church… space. Sound doesn’t even travel in space, but the Silent Disco can. It can travel anywhere. With the Silent Disco you can boldly party, where no man has partied before.
It’s the headphones. Something special happens when those things get put on. People stop talking. There’s no need to talk, especially when everyone is smiling, laughing and dancing. People start communicating with gestures, facial expressions and movement. You have to move. Your body is compelled to move.
There are no wallflowers at the Silent Disco.
For as long as they’ve existed, headphones have helped people create a safe, secure, personal bubble. Freedom within the mind to indulge and be one’s self, like writing in a journal or singing in the shower.
That’s the Silent Disco, essentially: a crowd of people singing and dancing in the privacy of their respective showers, but together— in public, with their clothes on, most likely. Headphones usually detach people from the world, but at the Silent Disco they bring everyone together in a completely unique way.
